Trad Dance Experience the joy of Cape Breton culture through dance

About Trad Dance

Cape Breton Island has a unique treasure in its Celtic culture, and Trad Dance believes this culture can be shared with individuals of all ages and backgrounds. It is this belief that motivates Trad Dance to provide its students with quality education in the art of traditional Cape Breton dance.

We strive to provide all participants with a fun, relaxed learning experience, that will allow them to develop a greater understanding of Cape Breton music and dance. We recognize that each student has unique skills and abilities, and we do all that we can to ensure all students get the most out of their dancing experience. Through instruction in Cape Breton square dancing and step-dancing, Trad Dance is spreading the joy that Cape Breton culture can bring to people. The styles of dance taught by Trad Dance allow all students to experience our culture on a deeper level.

Trad Dance treats each opportunity to teach Cape Breton dance as one that will allow for the growth of our beautiful culture. We are always excited to participate in classes and workshops that will expose, and preserve, our culture.

Instructor

The primary instructor for Trad Dance, Anna MacDonald, brings years of dance experience to each class she teaches. Having started dancing at the age of 4, Anna has developed into an accomplished step-dancer, who strives to maintain tradition, and share that tradition with others. Her enthusiasm for Cape Breton dance allows her to make each class fun and exciting for those involved.

Also an experienced square dancer, Anna has a great deal of knowledge of the various types of Cape Breton square sets, allowing for adaptation depending upon the class. In addition, Anna has studied traditional Cape Breton music on the fiddle and piano, and has completed studies in the Gaelic language. Because of the interconnectivity of all aspects of Cape Breton culture, Anna’s knowledge of each brings an added benefit to her classes.

Baddeck

TradDance is located in beautiful Baddeck, Nova Scotia. Centrally located on Cape Breton Island, Baddeck is situated directly on the Bras d’Or lakes and is the “start” and “end” of the world-famous Cabot Trail.

Perhaps most famously, Baddeck is home to the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site. It was on Baddeck Bay that Bell flew his Silver Dart aircraft in 1909. The following sites will provide helpful information for your upcoming trip to Baddeck:
